Faults and fixes 6ES7647-6BJ36-4BF1
6ES7647-6BJ36-4BF1 (Box PC 627B): which code is on the status display?
At the rear there is an optional status display with two 7-segment digits and two dual-colour LEDs, H1 and H2. At switch-on it shows 88 with both LEDs orange as a display test, during the BIOS self-test the POST code of the running step, and 00 when the self-test has finished without error. If another code remains, that is the step in which the error occurred. For 28H, 2AH, 2CH, 2EH, 30H, 38H, 5CH, 60H, 62H and BCH Siemens says: replace the memory modules. 3AH is the processor cache (replace the processor), 90H the hard disk (disconnect it and replace it if necessary) and 55H the USB hardware (remove USB devices). For 3CH test by disabling hardware components in Setup, for 49H and 98H also by removing expansion cards. The BIOS also beeps: two short beeps for a BIOS checksum error (after a battery change or with a flat battery), one long and eight short for an error reading the MPI system information, and four short when the MPI firmware has been updated, which can happen once after a BIOS update. 6ES7647-6BJ36-4BF1 (Box PC 627B): SOM reports a temperature or fan fault
The Box PC 627B measures the temperature with three sensors (processor, area near the power supply and intake air next to the DVI port) and monitors the enclosure and power supply fans. When the temperature is too high, the device and CPU fans run at full speed and SOM or DiagMonitor reports the fault. Siemens lists these checks: are the fan openings free, is the fan still turning (speed shown in SOM), is the ambient temperature not too high, is the power supply load within its limit, and are the heat sinks free of dust? Permitted is +5 to +45 °C, up to +50 °C when the expansion cards together use at most 20 W and up to +55 °C with at most 10 W. The alarm stays until the cause is gone and you acknowledge it in SOM with the broom icon; without SOM, restart the PC. 6ES7647-6BJ36-4BF1 (Box PC 627B): wrong date and time, and what do I replace preventively?
First set date and time in the BIOS Setup (F2 during start-up). If they are still wrong afterwards, or the BIOS reports 'System battery is dead', replace the backup battery in the battery compartment at the rear, only with the same type or the type Siemens recommends (A5E00331143). Note the BIOS settings first and change it quickly: with profile 'Standard' the configuration data is lost if the change takes more than 30 seconds, with 'User' it is kept; the content of the SRAM is also lost after 30 seconds. For high availability Siemens advises preventive replacement: hard disk and fan after 3 years, the CMOS battery after 5 years. 6ES7647-6BJ36-4BF1 (Box PC 627B): Windows no longer boots
According to Siemens, first check the 'SATA/PATA Configuration' submenu and the Boot menu in the BIOS Setup. For 'Operating system not found' the causes are: no operating system, the wrong drive addressed, an incorrect active boot partition, a wrong boot drive setting in SETUP, or a hard disk that is not connected or defective; 'Failure Fixed Disk' is an error accessing the disk. You can restore with the Restore DVD of the Windows XP Professional variant. Without an optical drive use a USB DVD drive, with 'Legacy USB Support' set to Enabled in the BIOS, and a USB keyboard for the reinstallation. Restoring erases all data, authorizations and licence keys on the restored drive, so back them up first. What do I check when replacing a 6ES7647-6BJ36-4BF1 (Box PC 627B)?
Choose the same power supply: 100 to 240 V AC (autorange) or 24 V DC (SELV). The DC variant draws up to 8 A continuously and up to 14 A for 30 ms at switch-on; if the PC hangs during start-up, Siemens names an external 24 V supply that is too weak as a possible cause. The device has degree of protection IP20. Carry over the hard disk or the CompactFlash with the image and back up licence keys first. Siemens started the phase-out of the Box PC 627B on 1 December 2010 and names the SIMATIC IPC627C as its successor (product note 46595599). Fault not fixed: replace, exchange or repair the 6ES7647-6BJ36-4BF1?
Replacing from stock is the fastest route when a machine is down. Van Haelen supplies the 6ES7647-6BJ36-4BF1 refurbished: tested to this family's test protocol, with a test report per serial number, with a 24-month warranty. The current lead time is shown with the condition on this page. Prefer an exchange: you get a refurbished unit straight away and return the faulty one within 14 days. Repairing your own unit is also possible: diagnosis, then a fixed price.
What information should I send for a quick diagnosis?
A photo of the rating plate (order number, product version, firmware), the exact fault code or LED state, when the fault occurs (at power-up, on enable, under load) and what you have already tried. For PLCs an export of the diagnostic buffer, for drives the parameter set. With that we can usually say the same day whether replacing, exchanging or repairing is best.
