Also written as: 6SE3 221-3DC40, 6SE32213DC40
The Siemens 6SE3221-3DC40 is the MICROMASTER Vector MMV550/3 frequency inverter with 3 AC 380-500 V and 5,5 kW at constant torque. The overload capability is 150% for 60 s and 200% for 3 s. It is the unfiltered version, with degree of protection IP20, for 0 to 50 °C ambient temperature and with dimensions of 215 x 185 x 195 mm (H x W x D). The MICROMASTER Vector is the compact Siemens frequency inverter with vector control for three-phase motors on pumps, fans, conveyors and machines; an identical type replaces a defective unit without changing the installation. Siemens reports this type as no longer available and discontinued it on 1 October 2014; no successor is specified. When replacing, switch the voltage off and wait for the DC link discharge time, mount the unit in the same place, connect the line, motor and control cables to the same terminals, take over the parameters of the old unit and after switching on check the operation.

Faults and fixes 6SE3221-3DC40
Problems with 6SE3221-3DC40: overcurrent, overvoltage or overtemperature
On frequency converters and servo amplifiers three fault groups are the most common. Overcurrent: short circuit or earth fault in motor or cable, too short a ramp or wrong motor data; if the fault returns with no motor, the output stage is defective. DC-link overvoltage: decelerating too fast without a braking resistor. Overtemperature: a clogged heat sink or a fan that no longer turns. Always note the fault code and the moment.
What do I check when replacing a 6SE3221-3DC40?
Keep the parameter set of the old unit; it makes setting up the replacement quick. Check rating, supply voltage, frame and option boards, and whether the firmware version matches the parameter set. After long storage the DC-link capacitors should be reformed.
Fault not fixed: replace, exchange or repair the 6SE3221-3DC40?
Replacing from stock is the fastest route when a machine is down. Van Haelen supplies the 6SE3221-3DC40 refurbished (tested, with a test report per serial number) or new in factory packaging, with a 24-month warranty. The current lead time is shown with the condition on this page. Prefer an exchange: you get a refurbished unit straight away and return the faulty one within 14 days. Repairing your own unit is also possible: diagnosis, then a fixed price.
What information should I send for a quick diagnosis?
A photo of the rating plate (order number, product version, firmware), the exact fault code or LED state, when the fault occurs (at power-up, on enable, under load) and what you have already tried. For PLCs an export of the diagnostic buffer, for drives the parameter set. With that we can usually say the same day whether replacing, exchanging or repairing is best.
