Faults and fixes 6SE7021-8TB71-Z
6SE7021-8TB71-Z (MASTERDRIVES MC): F or A message on the PMU, and how do I read and acknowledge the fault?
The PMU shows a fault as F with a three-digit number and an alarm as A with a number; an alarm cannot be acknowledged and disappears by itself once the cause is gone, several alarms are shown one after the other, and with an OP1S the message stands in the lowest line and the red LED flashes. For a fault read r947 (fault number), r949 (fault value), r951 (fault list) and r782 (fault time); P952 counts the faults and P952 = 0 deletes the fault memory, which keeps the current fault and seven acknowledged faults with their operating hours. A fault not reset before the electronics supply is switched off is present again at power-on, and the unit cannot be operated without resetting it. On the PMU the P key (toggle key) switches between parameter number, index and value and the raise and lower keys change the value; a change made on the PMU is safely stored in the EEPROM once the P key has been pressed. 6SE7021-8TB71-Z (MASTERDRIVES MC): F002, F006, F008: pre-charging, DC link overvoltage or undervoltage
F002 (pre-charging fault): the DC link voltage did not reach the setpoint within 3 seconds; check the voltage connection (AC) or the input direct voltage (DC), the fuses, and whether P070 matches the unit's order number (MLFB). F006 (DC link overvoltage): the rated shutdown threshold is 819 V and lies between 803 and 835 V because of component tolerances; the fault value gives the DC link voltage at that moment (0x7FFF corresponds to 1000 V); check the line voltage or the input direct voltage and compare it with P071. F008 (undervoltage): the DC link fell below 76% of its rated value; check the line or input voltage against P071, the input rectifier (AC-AC) and the DC link. F001 (main contactor checkback): the monitoring time P600 has expired; check the checkback, clear it with P591.B = 0 or increase P600. 6SE7021-8TB71-Z (MASTERDRIVES MC): F011 overcurrent, F015 motor blocked, F020 motor temperature, F023 inverter temperature
F011 (overcurrent, not Compact PLUS): the fault value names the phase (U = 1, V = 2, W = 4, added up for several phases); check the converter output for short-circuit or earth fault, the load for overload, whether motor and converter are correctly matched and whether the dynamic requirements are too high. F015 (motor blocked or overloaded, after the time P805): reduce the load, release the brake, increase the current or torque limits or P805, check the motor phases and their sequence; P806 limits detection to standstill (1) or deactivates it (2). F020 (motor temperature): r949 = 1 limit exceeded (threshold P381), 2 short-circuit in the sensor cable or sensor, 4 wire break; the current motor temperature is in r009 and P131 = 0 deactivates the fault. F021 is the motor I2t monitoring (P383, P384.002). F023 (inverter temperature): measure the air intake and ambient temperature (0 to 45 °C; derating above 45 °C for Compact PLUS and above 40 °C for the others), check whether the fan is running and the air openings are free; on units of 22 kW and above acknowledgement is only possible after 1 minute. F025 to F027 (UCE): earth fault at the outputs or the SAFE STOP switch on Compact units. Source: Siemens, SIMOVERT MASTERDRIVES Motion Control Compendium (6SE7087-6QX70), Faults and Alarms.
6SE7021-8TB71-Z (MASTERDRIVES MC): internal faults F040 to F045 and F060 to F065, and how do I restore the factory setting?
F040 (internal fault of the sequence control) and F041 (EEPROM) mean, according to Siemens: replace the control board CUMC, or the whole unit on Compact PLUS. F042 (time slot overflow) and alarm A001: reduce the pulse frequency or calculate blocks in a slower time slot; F043 (DSP link): keep the pulse frequency P340 at or below 7.5 kHz (60 MHz DSP) or 6 kHz (40 MHz DSP), if it recurs replace the board or unit; F044 (BICO manager): voltage off and on, factory setting and new parameterisation, otherwise exchange the board; F045 (hardware fault on an optional board): replace the CU board or the optional boards and check the connection to the subrack. F060: P070 is zero after initial loading, enter the correct MLFB; F061: a parameter outside the permissible range, r949 names its number; F063: the PIN for synchronisation or positioning is missing (U977); F065 (SCom telegram failure): check the connection of the PMU at X300 or X103 and the failure time P704. Factory setting: P053 = 6, P060 = 2, P970 = 0; the parameters of the power section definition (P070, P072, P073), the technology release (U976, U977), P366, the operating hours counter and the fault memory are kept. What do I check when replacing a 6SE7021-8TB71-Z (MASTERDRIVES MC)?
Read the order number first: after 6SE70 the current code, then T = inverter DC-AC, B = Compact frame size, and 7 = Motion Control Performance 2. For this 6SE7021-8TB71-Z the rated current is 17,5 A and the code for P070 is 26. Save the parameter set (upread with the OP1S or upload with DriveMonitor) and load it into the replacement; P060, P070 (order number), P072, P073, the bus addresses P700 to P703 and P918, P952, P970, P971, U976 and U977 are deliberately not written on a download and are set separately. After the power section definition (P060 = 8, P070 = code, back with P060 = 1) check that P071 (line voltage) and P072 (current) tally with the rating plate. A firmware change beyond the first digit after the point (for example from 1.3x to 1.4x) resets the board in full: the CUPM shows °000 and waits for P070, so save the parameters first. Fault not fixed: replace, exchange or repair the 6SE7021-8TB71-Z?
Replacing from stock is the fastest route when a machine is down. Van Haelen supplies the 6SE7021-8TB71-Z refurbished (tested, with a test report per serial number) or new in factory packaging, with a 24-month warranty. The current lead time is shown with the condition on this page. Prefer an exchange: you get a refurbished unit straight away and return the faulty one within 14 days. Repairing your own unit is also possible: diagnosis, then a fixed price.
What information should I send for a quick diagnosis?
A photo of the rating plate (order number, product version, firmware), the exact fault code or LED state, when the fault occurs (at power-up, on enable, under load) and what you have already tried. For PLCs an export of the diagnostic buffer, for drives the parameter set. With that we can usually say the same day whether replacing, exchanging or repairing is best.
